Planting Fruit Trees at Camp John I Hay

Culinary Arts

These future top chefs eagerly gathered in the Dole Culinary Arts Lab, to begin a series of classes that will impact their futures. "I'm excited to help our chefs become familiar with every aspect of the kitchen and the processes needed towards creating unique dishes, eliminating food disparities, filling vacuums where food deserts exits and understanding the beauty of eating healthy on a budget," said Chef McKinley Pierce, Director of Nutrition at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Mississippi.

In the first session, club members were introduced to the program, goals and objectives were established and ideas shared about expected outcomes. "I'm really looking forward to being able to cook and create a full meal for my family," said J. Bibbs, a middle school team member from our Sykes Unit.
